Florida's Adoption Ban is the only law in the country that categorically prohibits gay men and lesbians from adopting children. This discriminatory law hurts thousands of children who are languishing in Florida's foster care system by denying them a forever home.

During the week of September 28 – October 2, the ACLU of Florida and partner organizationswill be hosting a series of events to bring awareness of the ban to Gainesvillecitizens and Gators. All events are FREE , FAMILY-FRIENDLY, and open to the public.

 ·        Tuesday, 9/28 at the Hippodrome: Screening of In Anita’s Wake, a new documentary about Anita Bryant’s anti-gay tirade, including Q & A with the film’s director and ACLU plaintiff Martin Gill.   DOOR PRIZES!!!

·        Wednesday, 9/29 at UF Levin College of Law: Challenging Florida's Adoption Ban:  a panel discussion with ACLU LGBT rights attorney Shelbi Day and Martin Gill who challenged the law.  SNACKS WILL BE PROVIDED!!!  DOOR PRIZES!!!
·        Saturday, 10/2 at Pride Community Center: Speaker’s training for adults on how to talk about and work towards overturning the ban, featuring Daryl Hannah from GLAAD.  Children and Youth programming offered by Family Equality Council engaging topics such as bullying and diverse families.  LUNCH AND SNACKS WILL BE PROVIDED!!!  EARLY REGISTRATION AND DOOR PRIZES!!!

These events take on special meaning due to yesterday’s victory in the district court of appeals which ruled that Martin Gill, plaintiff in the ACLU case, could adopt the two boys in his care.
